Traveling to Europe this winter(2009) and I don't know where to go!?
Ok me and a friend (age 20 and 19) will be going to europe this winter and I was wondering what are some good places for tourist..or just things that must be seen in a persons lifetime
we have places such as france, spain, ireland, germany
but I would really appreciate it if anyone had ANY suggestions
oh, and if they were on the cheaper side that would help considering we are paying for all the accommodations on our own!
thank you!
It would be hard to go wrong no matter where you choose. What are your interests? You might consider someplace like Prague or Budapest. Both are pretty interesting places and not quite so expensive as some of the other places here. They both have great Christmas markets in addition to the normal attractions. Here in Italy, Verona is particularly nice in the winter depending on exactly when you plan to visit and you could combine it with Venice and florence pretty easily. If you're coming in February, Carnevale will be running throughout Italy. In addition to the well-known celebration in Venice there are many other places with good festivals like:
http://www.carnevalediivrea.it/english/battaglia.asp - you pretty much have to see this to believe it. The orange battles are pretty amazing.
http://www.carnevalecento.com/index.asp - huge allegorical floats in narrow streets on Sundays. There's an exchange group from Brazil every year.
http://www.viareggio.ilcarnevale.com/ - Carnevale in a beach town. ... there are many other possibilities.
