Undiscovered Travel Destinations

Not all destinations are full of tourists. In fact, not all of them are even on the map. I have had an interest secret of these "places" since I discovered two little lakes high in the hills and cliffs north of Ishpeming, Michigan. No trails even lead these, and there was a trout on the line ten seconds after the deal.

Other travel destinations are not as isolated, but still generally ignored by most tourists. This was the case in Yelapa, Mexico, when I was there in 1981. The beaches were deserted, you could buy fresh fish for dinner fishermen in the afternoon, and a palapa (thatched house) rent for about $ 100 per month. The forest surrounding the falls you could swim under. No roads lead there, but not a daily boat from nearby Puerto Vallarta.

Yelapa, unfortunately, has been uncovered and now invaded by tourists. Often, be yourself, I nothing against tourists. But when the crowd gets too thick, I prefer the more secret places. Here are some examples of some of those travel destinations that have are discovered.

Storm Lake

Anaconda, Montana is a fun destination in itself. You can rent a room for Harp and Thistle above the Pub for $ 140 for the week (from August 2007) and be within walking distance of at least ten casinos with nickel slots and as the new brew pub and restaurant (Rocky Mountain Brewing). Two blocks away, the Washoe Theater, considered one of the most beautiful in the country by the Institute Smithsonian, charges only $ 4 for a movie, and 90 cents for a small popcorn. Nicolae, designed by Jack golf course (The Old Course Golf Works) is right on the edge of the town.

If you really want to escape, however, drive 14 miles west on Highway 1. When you see the sign that says "Storm Lake", turn there. It's nine miles to the lake (Bear left where the road splits), but you may need high clearance for the last mile (but are used to stop there in our Ford Escort). In general, one few places in the lake, but you always find a place to park.

The lake is about 8,000 feet and is known locally for its trout murderer. A trip down the road along the right side and the other side-is the pintle Wilderness Area Anaconda. Less than an hour on the trail come to Storm Lake Pass in the tree line. From here you can continue in tundra environment of Goat Meadows, or an endless wilderness of mountains and lakes. Rarely will any other company of bears, birds and mountain goats.

Alamogordo, New Mexico

This is not at the top of most lists of tourists, which is good for those of us who like our travel destinations uncrowded. This is a small big city, however, and a great base from which to explore the surroundings. It is also a good place to escape the winter, as it rarely snows or gets too cold here.

You can verify the eligibility of small zoo in the city for a relaxing afternoon. Also There is an IMAX theater on the north side of town (see signs), and probably will not have to wait in long lines on Saturdays from June to October you can visit the market farmers in the county fair.

If you want to rise above the desert, drive thirty minutes or so up in the mountains near Cloudcroft, or go a little further observation of sunspots, or the Casino in Ruidoso. If the right time, can take the sun with a day of skiing in Alamogordo and be the next Day in the Cloudcroft ski area.

For an unusual destination, visit the Test Site of Trinidad, where the first atomic bomb exploded. This is an hour north of Alomogordo, possibly confused by dirt roads and open only a day or two each year, so you have to do your homework. West of the city is the White Sands National Monument, with its truly amazing white sand dunes.

Other Travel Destinations Secret

Here in our town of Canon City, Colorado, is an area (Red Canyon Park) just ten miles from the city with fantastic rock formations, such as those in the Garden more famous Gods park in Colorado Springs. The difference? You never feel crowded in this park, and you can climb on the rocks all you want, and explore the canyons slot also. How can I find out about travel destinations like this? Talk to people when you are traveling.
